    THE TROOPS HAD LEFT TUNIS THE DAY BEFORE IN AMERICAN GLOBEMASTER AND C 118 TRANSPORT PLANES. TUNISIA IS THE FIRST COUNTRY TO RESPOND TO THE APPEAL BY U THANT, THE ACTING SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS TO ALL AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO SPARE MORE MEN FOR THE CONGO OPERATIONS.

    TUNISIAN TROOPS WERE AMONG THE FIRST TO ARRIVE IN THE CONGO IN JULY, 1960, TO HELP THE UNITED NATIONS IN ITS ROLE OF MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER. THEY WERE WITHDRAWN FROM THE CONGO WHEN FRANCE AND TUNISIA CLASHED OVER THE PORT OF BIZERTA.
