SYNOPSIS: One thousand followers of fashion packed Istanbul's Hilton Hotel at the start of the city's first Fashion Festival on Sunday. Many leading European couturiers were represented among the sixty-four firms seeking a breakthrough into a new fashion market. And in the audience, Turkish Government Ministers rubbed shoulders with domestic fashion buyers.
A touch of exotic nightwear for the Turkish market--modelled by French, English and Turkish girls.
The designers of one three piece sleeping set had turned to the traditional Turkish harem for their inspiration. The largest foreign contingent at the festival came from France, whose fashion industry had a hundred representatives at the six-day event. If the festival is a success, it will continue Istanbul's long tradition of providing a trade bridge between east and west.
