  • Description

Indian fashions were on display in London on Friday (15 May).

The fashion parade was held at India House and aimed to introduce British audiences to the range and variety of fashion clothes available from India.

Featured in the parade was silk-wear, a fabric that Indian designers have made a favourite. The countries shades and varieties of the fabrics enables it to be used for glamorous evening wear as well as for less formal occasions. The first silk creation shown was a dupion green embroidered dress.

Silk can be used for less elaborate creations -- illustrated in by a plain Tussar silk dress with a tweed cape.

The parade brought the colour and variety of India's crowded city streets to London. Indian design draws traditional designs and motifs for much of its work -- the result is a particularly distinctive style.

Chiffon is another fabric that has caught the eye of India's fashion creators. A highlight of the show was a chiffon dress embroidered with gold. Each creation in the parade represented the area of India that inspired its designer.

All the dresses on show were available in London shops and the rich variety brought a feeling of the Orient to London in the Spring.
