Background: The Arab League has been discussing how to set up a centre to protect archeaological sites in Jerusalem. This was a major topic on the agenda at the League's 77th ordinary session, which began in Tunis on Wednesday (24 March). Delegates were also to debate such times as United States policy towards Libya, Israeli-occupied territories, a possible Arab boycott of Israel, and revising the League's Charter. The same day (24 March), the Pan-Arabic organisation said in a communique that it had set up a commission to plan a defence strategy for southern Lebanon. Arab League chairman Chedli Klibi chaired the session. Among the delegates were those from Algeria, Saudi Arabia, the United Arabs Emirates, Oman and Kuwait.
