United States Senator Robert Kennedy is in Peru on the first leg of a Latin American tour. He arrived in Lima Wednesday (10 November) and was warmly greeted at the airport by a crowd of Peruvians. He was accompanied by his wife, Ethel.
A main purpose of the Senator's trip was to inspect some of the effects of the Alliance for Progress programme sponsored by his brother, the late President John F. Kennedy. On Thursday, the Senator and his wife flew to Cuzco to ascertain how the Alliance is affecting the peasants there. On Wednesday, the Senator met with Peruvian leaders, visited a slum and inspected a low-priced housing project built with Alliance for Progress funds. He dedicated a small square in the project to President Kennedy.
