    NEARLY HALF THE 15,000 STUDENTS AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY, IN CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTES, IGNORED PICKET LINES TO ATTEND CLASSES AT THE START OF A THREE-DAY STRIKE CALLED YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) IN PROTEST AGAINST POLICE ACTION IN AN EARLIER CLASH WITH STUDENTS. MANY OF THE STUDENTS STATED THEY COULD NOT AFFORD THE TIME AWAY FROM STUDIES BECAUSE OF IMPENDING EXAMINATIONS.

    ON THURSDAY, RIOT POLICE WERE CALLED IN TO EJECT ABOUT 200 STUDENT WHO TOOK OVER THE HISTORIC UNIVERSITY HALL. AT LEAST 49 PEOPLE, INCLUDING EIGHT POLICE, WERE INJURED IN THE CLASH AND ABOUT 185 PEOPLE ARRESTED BY THE BATON-WIELDING POLICE.

    THE STRIKE PICKETS WERE LED BY MEMBERS OF THE RADICAL STUDENTS FOR A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY (S.D.S.) ORGANISATION.

    A RALLY OF MODERATE STUDENTS HELD IN THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS WAS ADDRESSED BY ONE OF THE LEADERS.

    LATER A MODERATE-STUDENT LEADER, MR. KEN GLAZIER, SPOKE OF THE AIMS OF THE STUDENTS.
