  • Description

The firing on January 31st of the United States' first earth satellite -- the Explorer, is excitingly captured in these camera shots. First, a close-up of the giant rocket as the super-heated flames blaze from its base and force it - seemingly slowly - off the ground, and then a distance shot in slow motion.

After the successful launching the American authorities granted a Press Conference in Washington on February 1 when reporters and observers asked question of the German-born inventor of the Jupier missile (which powered the Explorer), Herr. Wermer von Braun.

Other members of the scientific team were also present to confirm and enlarge Herr von Braun's summary of the Explorer's progress and future developments.
