The hotel, which cost over three million pounds sterling,contains 250 rooms for visiting officials and tourists. The hotel is considered a major accomplishment in the development of Congo-Kinshasa and its opening comes at a time when tourism is rapidly increasing. In a related development, the President of the Inter-Continental Hotels Corporation, Mr. Paul Sheeline called on the Congo-Kinshasa government to abolish or simplify its visa formalities so that tourism could be further encouraged.

The completion of the Inter-Continental Hotel is one of the major accomplishments of President Mobutu's leadership. At the inauguration ceremony, the President and his wife, Marie Antoinette, greeted well-wishers who came to admire the new structure. The hotel cost over three million pounds sterling and contains 250 rooms.
To make the grand opening official, President Mobutu cut the tape which unveiled the official plague. The President has been under pressure recently from the hotel Corporation to ease visa formalities so that the Congo's tourist industry could flourish on a larger scale.
