  • Description

Black Nationalist leader Ndabaningi Sithole attended a special court hearing to review his detention, in Salisbury on Monday (24 March).

Reverend Sithole who was arrested on March 4 -- less than three months after his release from 10 years in detention, has been charged with plotting to kill some of his political rivals. He was also accused of continuing to support terrorism in Rhodesia.

The court's presiding officer, acting Chief Justice Hector MacDonald, told the Court at later hearings that he considered the terrorism allegation more serious than the other, and therefore inquiries into the assassination plot accusation might be unnecessary if the other charge was found justified.

Mr. Justice MacDonald's remark prompted Reverend sithole to withdraw his defence case and return to detention.
