  • Description

An evaluation team from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will begin concept testing the XV-6AV/STOL(Vertical-Short-Takeoff-Landing) aircraft this month. Concept testing will be conducted at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Eglin Air Force Base, Florida; Patuzent Naval Air Station, Maryland; and aboard an aircraft carrier.

The test aircraft will be the British-built P.1127, redesignated the XV-6A by the United States. Six of these aircraft were obtained through an agreement with the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany. The three nations conducted an operational evaluation of the V/STOL jet concept in England last year.

The U.S. Armed Forces will test the V/STOL concept and its ability to meet the requirements of each individual service. Testing is scheduled to be completed by July 31, 1966.

This film was made during the three-nation evaluation tests of the V/STOL concept last year at Norfolk, England.
