    The Chairman of the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation in California, Mr Daniel Haughton, yesterday (April 8) visited the Bristol engine factory of Rolls Royce to inspect the Olympus 593 turbojet and Pegasus engines.

    The Olympus turbojet is used to power the Anglo-French Concorde supersonic airliner. The Pegasus engine is used in the world's first operational vertical take-off strike aircraft, the Hawker Siddeley Harrier, now in service with the Royal Air Force and the United States Marine Corps.

    Rolls Royce officials said Mr Haughton's visit was routine. He later visited the British Aircraft Corporation.

    SYNOPSIS: Rolls Royce....and a courtesy visit to the company's Bristol engine factory by the chairman of Lockheed, Mr Daniel Haughton.

    Lockheed's are the builders of the new TriStar airliner which is powered by three RB two-eleven engines designed and built by Rolls Royce. The Bristol works is the centre for the design, development and manufacture of the Olympus engine -- used to power the Anglo-French Concorde supersonic airliner.

    Other engine projects at the factory include the Pegasus engine -- used in the world's first operational vertical take-off aircraft, the Hawker Siddeley Harrier. The Harrier is now in military service in Britain and the United States.

    Later Mr Haughton also toured the Concorde Flight Test Centre in Gloucester, and the British Aircraft corporations's factory where other work on the Concorde is being undertaken. But Rolls Royce officials said no new deals were being discussed with Lockheed at the moment.
