    THE KING SPENT AN HOUR WITH PRESIDENT DE GAULLE AT THE ELYSEE PALACE. AS HE LEFT HE WAS ASKED BY NEWSMEN ABOUT THE MIDDLE EAST TALKS. HE REPLIED IN ARABIC THAT HE WAS OPTIMISTIC AND ADDED THAT IF THEY SUCCEEDED THE TALKS WOULD HELP TO A VERY LARGE EXTEND IN ACHIEVING SETTLEMENT ALONG THE LINES OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL'S RESOLUTION OF NOVEMBER 1967.

    HE SAID THAT AS HE WAS CONCERNED THAT SITUATION WAS QUITE ENCOURAGING IN TERMS OF THE EFFORTS THAT HAD BEEN MADE. RECENTLY KING HUSSEIN HAD TALKS WITH PRESIDENT NASSER OF THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC, KING FEISAL OF SAUDI ARABIA, AND PRESIDENT CHARLES HELOU OF LEBANON. HE IS SCHEDULED TO HAVE TALKS IN WASHINGTON WITH PRESIDENT NIXON.
