    THE AFRICANS BELONGED TO THE MASHONA TRIBE WHICH IS NOTED FOR ITS BASKET-MAKERS. FIFTEEN YEARS AGO THEY MIGRATED TO KORSTEN NEAR THE SOUTH AFRICAN CITY OF PORT ELIZABETH WHERE THEY SETTLED INTO VARIOUS TRADES.

    IN RECENT YEARS, HOWEVER, THE TRIBE URGED THAT IT BE RETURNED TO ITS HOMELAND AND THE MIGRATION BEGAN IN STAGES. THIS TRAINLOAD ON JUNE 14TH REPRESENTED THE LARGEST GROUP SO FAR OF THE 2,000 MEMBER TRIBE. THE REMAINDER WERE DUE WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

    A SPECIAL GOVERNMENT COMMISSION PLANNED THE CAMP WHICH INCLUDES CLINICS, RUNNING WATER SUPPLY, COMMUNAL COOKING FACILITIES, ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCKS AND METAL SLEEPING HUTS. PLENTIFUL SUPPLIES OF REEDS GROW NEARBY SO THAT THE TRIBE CAN CONTINUE ITS BASKET MAKING.
