  • Description

The last American prisoners of war from Hanoi received a boisterous welcome when their plane reached Clark Field in the Philippines late last (Thursday) night. All previous arrivals over the last three weeks looked tame by comparison. Cheering spectators ???ept breaking through the security cordon to greet the returned prisoners. Some were relatives of the released men, others were friends who had known them in the Philippines. The sister of one airman almost broke up the official reception line by hugging her brother in front of the senior officers waiting to welcome him. Last man off the final plane was Lt. Cdr. Alfred Agnew who was greeted by the US Pacific Fleet Commander, Admiral Gaylor and the US Ambassador to the Philippines, Mr. Henry Byroade. According to reports from Saigon, Agnew is not the last American prisoner to be repatriated. An Army Captain is due to be released this weekend.
