Background: Accompanied by the French Consul, November 11, General Raoul Salan laid a wreath at the San Sebastian monument to French soldiers who fell in the two World Wars. The General, who was removed from his post of Commander-in-Chief of the French Forces in Algeria, is on a private visit to Spain.
After the wreath laying ceremony on the 42nd anniversary of the World Was One Armistice, the General had a press conference. Once again he attacked the French Government's Algerian policy. It was for this reason that he was relieved of his post.
Reports from Madrid November 15 say Jose Ortiz, a leader of the January insurrection in Algiers, is in Barcelona attempting to meet General Salan. Ortiz is accused with Pierre Lagaillarde in the Paris "trial of the barricades", but escaped arrest by fleeing to Majorca.
