    THE CYCLING SEASON IN BRITAIN GOT OFF TO A FLYING START TODAY (SUNDAY) WITH THE HARP LAGER GRAND PRIX-HELD AT BEACONSFIELD IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. AS WELL AS BRITISH ENTRIES, COMPETITORS CAME FROM FRANCE, BELGIUM, HOLLAND AND SWEDEN.

    THE COURSE IS TEN MILES IN CIRCUMFERENCE, AND THE RIDERS HAD TO COMPLETE EIGHT CIRCUITS, MAKING A JOURNEY OF EIGHTY MILES IN ALL.

    SEVERAL THOUSAND PEOPLE LINED THE ROUTE AS THE COMPETITORS STARTED. FOR THE MOST PART THE CYCLISTS KEPT CLOSELY BUNCHED AND A FEW SPILLS ADDED TO THE EXCITEMENT. HOWEVER AS THE RACE PROGRESSES, D. HARRISON, FROM THE BRITISH MANCHESTER WHEELERS TEAM BROKE AWAY AND WON COMFORTABLY IN A TIME OF THREE HOURS, THIRTY-THREE SECONDS. TWENTY SECOND BEHIND HIM CAME THE FAMOUS DUTCH CYCLIST, PIET VAN DIJK. THE YORKSHIRE CHAMPION, J. MACKLAM FROM LEEDS FINISHED THIRD.
