Background: Thirteen nations sent their promising young gymnasts to a world class tournament held in Orleans, France on Wednesday,(13 June).
SYNOPSIS: The venue was the Palais des Sports d'Orleans. It is the second year the tournament organised by the city council had been held. This is Kellams from the United States. Competitors were aged between thirteen and nineteen.
Here's the eventual winner of the tournament, Ancia Kich. She's only fourteen-year-old, but demonstrates her superb technique... the legacy of long hours of training.
Zhu Zeng of China did well on the asymmetric bars, scoring even better than Kich. She won the bars section of the competition, but was forced into second place overall by the brilliant Kich.
It's considered that many of the competitors at the Orleans championships may gain places in their national teams for the Olympic Games is August next year. A crowd of three-and-half thousand people watched the tournament.
Here's Kich again... this time on the asymmetric bars. Its not her favourite routine. She scored much better on the rings, gaining the very high score of nine point eight. The final placings in the overall competition, Kich first, Zhu Zeng, second and Dunca also of Romania, third.
