GROUPS OF YOUTHS RAN THROUGH THE STREETS PELTING POLICE WITH BOTTLES, STONES, BAR STOOLS, FIREWORKS AND BALL BEARINGS.

POLICE, HOWEVER, PREVENTED DEMONSTRATORS FROM REACHING THE SOVIET EMBASSY AND DETAINED 24 PEOPLE.

SEVENTEEN POLICEMEN AND AN UNKNOWN NUMBER OF DEMONSTRATORS WERE INJURED.
