  • Description

JAPAN IS THE LATEST CONTRIBUTOR IN THE FIGHT AGAINST ANTI-GOVERNMENT FORCES IN SOUTH VIETNAM. A GIFT OF 20,000 TRANSISTOR RADIOS WAS HANDED OVER IN SAIGON ON THURSDAY TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO PEOPLE LIVING IN REMOTE VILLAGES. THE MINISTER OF PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE, GENERAL LINH QUANG VIEN, RECEIVED THEM FROM THE JAPANESE AMBASSADOR, MR. SATORU TAKAHASHI.

THE RADIOS WERE PRESENTED UNDER A JAPANESE AID PROGRAMME AMOUNTING TO 1 1/2-MILLION U.S. DOLLARS. GENERAL VIEN EXPRESSED THE GOVERNMENT'S THANKS FOR THE GIFT.

(SOUTH KOREA ANNOUNCED EARLIER THIS MONTH THAT SHE WOULD SEND 2,000 TROOPS TO HELP SUPPORT THE SOUTH VIETNAM GOVERNMENT FORCES - A MOVE STRONGLY CONDEMNED BY THE SOVIET UNION, NORTH VIETNAM AND NORTH KOREA. THEY SAID IT WAS A SERIOUS THREAT TO PEACE IN SOUTH-EAST ASIA. NORTH VIETNAM APPEALED FOR ACTION TO STOP THE "U.S. IMPERIALISTS AND THEIR AGENTS" EXPANDING THE WAR IN SOUTH VIETNAM).

(MEANWHILE, THE SOVIET PRIME MINISTER, MR. ALEXEI KOSYGIN, IS TO MAKE AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO NORTH VIETNAM SOON. LAST WEEK, THE SOVIET UNION REPEATED ASSURANCES OF HELP AND SUPPORT FOR NORTH VIETNAM).
