    Background: Delegates to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation's sixth inter governmental session on bananas visited a large banana plantation 40 km (25 miles) from Abidjan last week.

    The 200 delegates from 20 producing countries, consumers and traders looked over the agricultural cooperative at Nieky. The Ivory Coast is Africa's top producer of the fruits with an annual output of 180,000 tonnes (tons).

    The delegates studied trends of the banana market last year and its prospects for the 1975-76 year.

    Countries represented include Cameroun, Brazil, France, Colombia, Cuba, Costa-Rica, Equador, Honduras, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Guatomala, Nicaragua, Mexico, Jamaica, Somalia, Spain, the Philippines, Portugal, Venezuela, Guinea and India.
