    Italy won two gold medals in the International Military Boxing Championships, which ended on Tuesday (July 28) at Abidjan.

    At fly-weight, Antonio Verdiani beat Prapan Prapan of Thailand, on points.

    At bantamweight, Onori of Italy beat Clement of France on points.

    The twenty-second Championships got under way at the Central Boxing Club in Abidjan on July 24.

    Organised under the auspices of the International Council of Military Sport, the Championships, last held in 1969 at Salonica in Greece, brought together boxers from the armed forces of West Germany, United States, Ghana, Thailand, Iran, Italy, France, and the Ivory Coast. At Salonica Ivory Coast won one gold medal, and two bronze.

    Leading gold medal winners this time were the United States and Ghana, with three each.
