  • Description

A Conference of Representatives of Communist Parties in western European countries ended in Roma on Sunday (17 November).

68 delegates from 19 countries attended the three-day meeting. Among them were members of parliament, cultural personalities, leaders of the parties and Trades Union officials.

There were also a large number of women -- hardly surprising in view of the fact that the theme of the conference was women's rights.

The delegates discussed the problem of women and labor and the legal position of women, family and motherhood in modern society.

The organisers claim that it was the first international conference totally devoted to the position of women and was particularly important in view of the recent United Nations' announcement hat 1975 has bene designated International Women's year.

The Secretary-General of the Italian Communist Party, Enrico Berlinguer, addressed the conference on Sunday and said that it was essential to establish dialogue with feminist movements because women are oppressed under capitalism in the same way as the workers.
