Background: Athletics - The Commonwealth Games in Edmonton Canada were in full swing on Friday (4 August) with exciting finishes in many of the events. Britain's Queen Elizabeth, who is head of the Commonwealth was in attendance at both weightlifting and swimming finals. Precious McKenzie, now completing for New Zealand, who won his fourth successive gold in the weight-lifting event, said he had trained especially hard for this competition and made an extra effort because the Queen was there. The BBC's David Vine and Alan Weeks are the commentators. Vine first, at the weightlifting; where Egabran Karunkaran won India's first gold medal.
