United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Kurt Waldheim, arrived in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, on Friday (14 June) for an official visit.
Dr. Waldheim arrived from Mogadishu in Somalia, after attending the opening of the Organisation of African Unity's Summit conference there.
He was to spend two days in Kenya as the guest of the Kenyan Government.
The U.N. Secretary-General was greeted by Kenya's Commerce and Industry Minister, Dr. Kiano, and by the Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Maurice Strong.
Dr. Waldheim went on from the airport to the headquarters of UNEP in the Kenyatta Conference Centre. The UNEP headquarters was established in Nairobi two years ago. It is the only United Nations agency headquarters in a developing country.
Dr. Waldheim was to leave Kenya for Vienna on Sunday (16 June) after visiting the developing town of Keekorok.
