The commission, which is led by House in the Lebanese capital of Beirut. The Commission , which is led by Leonardo Mathias of Portugal, and which includes representatives from Bolivia and Zambia, had arrived in Beirut from Damascus earlier in the day. Monisieur Al-Hoss also had talks with the American Ambassador and Iraqi Charge d'Affairs Kais al-Fahd about the continued shelling in Southern Lebanon.

SYNOPSIS: The Commission conferred with Lebanese Foreign Minister Fouad Boutros and Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat, who presented what he called material proof of the results of Israeli aggression. The Commission left the same day for Cairo, and Senhor Mathias summed up its work.

Senhor Mathias said the members of the Commission felt their journey had been most useful in gathering information from private sources. This data would go into their report, now being prepared, and due to be completed in about a month's time. The Commission had also benefitted from its chances of speaking to government representatives in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, and to official of certain Palestinian organisations.

Monsieur al-Foss had talks with Iraqi Charge d'Affaires Kais al-Fahd and the United States Ambassador to the Lebanon, Mr. John Guenther Dean, as more and more refugees were moving north to safer areas in the country.

After the talks, Kais al-Fahd told newsmen Iraq was ready to do all it could to prevent things from getting worse in the Lebanon. Mr. Dean also pledged maximum help from his country. Israel, however, has refused to co-operate with the Commission, and to authorise visits to the occupied territories. Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary General Kurt Waldheim has summoned the commander of the UN force in southern Lebanon to New York for consultations.
