Background: Probably the most well known British marathon walker, 56-year old Dr Barbara Moore has started yet another lone cross-country walk. This time she plans to walk from Key West, Florida, the extreme southern tip of the United States, to Boston in the north. A distance of 1,763-miles. If time permits, she intends to continue on into Canada.
On May 3, the VISNEWS cameraman caught up with her at Jewfish Creek, Florida, 108-miles north of Key West. She stopped her walk to have lunch with the bridge-tender's wife. But no steak and chips for Dr. Moore, she sticks rigidly to a diet of fruit, herbs, and nuts. Removing her shoes and stockings, the rugged Doctor gave her feet a well-earned massage and was off again on the walk she has dedicated to President Kennedy in fulfilment of a religious promise she made concerning his election.
Dr. Moore has already completed lone-walks from John-o-Groats to Land's End in Britain, and 3,200 miles across America from San Francisco to New York.
