Background: Shows, put on by some private theatre clubs to attract the "tired business man", and specialising in such things as strip-tease, were described at a meeting of the Public Morality Council in London today, as "deplorable". The Council was formed to bring to the attention of the highest possible authority, offences such as prostitution and indecency.

It was the Council's annual meeting at Church House, Westminster. The Archbishop of Canterbury is its Patron, the Bishop of London its Chairman, and most religious organisations are represented on it. One of the speakers was Sir John Wolfenden, interviewed labs by Douglas Brown.
