    Colombia's Finance Minister Rodrigo Llorente met with japanese Finance Minister Masayoshi Ohira Wednesday (10 January), while the Colombian Minister was in Tokyo to sign a new long-term loan with Japanese businessmen.

    Senor Llorente signed the 25-million dollar (10.6 million pounds) loan agreement with a Japanese consortium of ten major banks. The twelve-year loan is to be used by the Colombian Government to finance its economic development projects.

    The loan is aimed at improving Colombia's internal reserves as well as opening the Japanese financial market to Colombian investment.

    SYNOPSIS: At the Foreign Minister Building in Tokyo Japanese Wednesday, a delegation of Colombian businessmen, led by Finance Minister Rodrigo Llorente, arrived for talks with senior Japanese officials.

    The Colombian delegation was greeted by Japan's Finance Minister Masayoshi Ohira. The term of Colombian Government and business leaders were in Japan to sign a new loan agreement with Japanese business interests, and to discuss with Government officials the possibility of help in financing a new dam project.

    The loan - signed the day before this meeting with Mr. Ohira - was for 25- million dollars. It will be used by the Colombian Government to finance its economic development programme, and help open the Japanese financial market to Colombian investment.
