  • Description

Ernesto Brambilla last Sunday (1 December) edged fellow Italian Andrea de Adamich by two-tenths of a second to win the first of four international formula two car races in Argentina.

Brambilla, driving a Ferrari, Car No. 12, held off a strong challenge from de Adamich in Car No. 14, to complete 70 laps at Buenos Aires Autodrome No. 9 circuit in the time of one hour, 35 minutes and 20 and 6/10 seconds.

De Adamich, also in a Ferrari, duelled fiercely with Brambilla but was nipped at the finish in 1:35.20 8/10. Britain's Jackie Oliver, in Car No. 36, never in the two-car race in the final stages, was third with a time of one hour, 36 minutes, and 30 seconds.

Only ten of the 20 starters finished the race in which there were no serious accidents.

Casualties included Jo Siffert of Switzerland, driving Car No. 18.

Among the spectators was former world champion racing driver Juan Manuel Fanglo.
