Background: In India, some two hundred demonstrators surrounded the United States Embassy in New Delhi on Saturday (15 March) to protest American proposals to grant military aid to Pakistan. the demonstrators accused the United States of pursuing a war-mongering policy and threatening peace in the Indian sub-continent.

SYNOPSIS: Delhi's anti-riot police were out in force to protect the U.S. Embassy but the demonstrators were not intent on causing trouble. They were members of the All India Freedom Fighters Organisation and had come to submit a memorandum ti the U.S. Embassy protesting recent reports that the United States was planning to grant further military aid to Pakistan.

The demonstration was led by a ninety-eight year old former freedom fighter, Mr Parmana, who participated in the rebellion against British rule in India.

The demonstrators accused both the United States China of having designs on the Indian sub-continent and seeking to spread dissension. In their memorandum the demonstrators also accused the United States of spreading communal hatred y encouraging Moslem fanatics to oust the present government in Afghanistan.

The demonstrators appealed to the American people to exert pressure on their government to give up what they termed as American "war-mongering policy" for the sake of world peace.
