  • Description

Pierre Bolya and Albert Delvaux, leaders of the PNP - the Congo Republic's National Progressive Party - Dec 12 held the first meeting of their exiled party since last July, at the Hotel Regina, Leopoldville.

Bolya - President of the moderate PNP - was a member of the Executive Council before the Congo attained independence. He then went into hiding during the regime of imprisoned ex-Premier Lumumba. He is now Minister of Health under Mr Kasavubu, and has been asked to play an important role in the new formation of the Republic.

Delvaux, vice-President of the PNP, Senator Anoni, second vice-President, and Mr Bolya, discussed the current situation with other members of the party. They included Senators Mbai, Dindaly, Mr Kupa and Mr Mbuta - all of whom are said to have been released from imprisonment and ill-treatment by Lumumba supporters in Stanleyville.

Speaking on Katanga, Mr Bolya said: "Tshombe does not desire complete separation, he regards us as brothers. He wants to share with us the riches of the Congo."
