    The new Canadian Ambassador to Liberia presented his credentials to President William Tolbert in a ceremony at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia, on Friday (24 November).

    Ambassador Gilles Mathiew, in comments delivered on the occasion, observed that Liberia was an important trading partner of his country in West Africa. The Canadian envoy said that his "intention would be to contribute ... to the strengthening of Liberian-Canadian relations, in the realisation that such a development would be in the interests of both countries."
    In accepting his credentials, President Tolbert said he welcomed the improvement of Canadian-Liberian relations, and said he felt sure such relations would be fruitful.
