Background: Tunisian championship swimmer A. Gharbi won the second heat of the men's hundred-metre butterfly in the African Swimming Championships Sunday (29 September) stage in Cairo, Egypt, in the same style that he eventually displayed to win the finals in two minutes one-point-one seconds. Second in the finals was A. Kenawi of Egypt in two minutes two-point-three seconds and third S. Shenawi, also of Egypt, in two minutes five-point-four seconds.
Gharbi upheld the Tunisian display of the previous day when his fellow-countrymen own four Gold Medals and broke three records.
