The body of former United States President Harry S Truman was taken to Truman Library in Independence, Missouri where it lay in state on Wednesday. The former President's World War One Battery, Battery 'B', fired a salute that resounded through the Mid-West town.
President Nixon has declared thirty days of National mourning with flags at half mast. He also order all Government offices to close on Thursday when Mr. Truman was buried in the courtyard of the Library. More than ten thousand people filed past the flag-draped coffin at the Truman Library to pay homage to the man who served them in the White House from 1945 to 1953. Later the Reverend John Lemboke read a prayer for those who came to mourn.
Former Untied States President, Lyndon Johnson paid tribute to his fallen Democrat colleague.
President Nixon also paid his last respects to Mr. truman. While Mrs. Nixon watched, the President layed a wreath of red, white and blue carnations at the base of Mr. truman's coffin.

On Wednesday (27 December) President Nixon laid a wreath of red, white and blue carnations near the closed coffin in the foyer of the Truman Library in Independence. Former President Lyndon Johnson also paid homage to his old friend.
Later an estimated 10,000 people filed past the flag-draped coffin. Many mourners endured a three-hour wait in near freezing temperatures before viewing the coffin of the man who served them in the White House from 1945 to 1953.
