    Dwight D Eisenhower, President of the United States of America, was waiting at Washington Airport as his own plane, carrying Sir Winston Churchill, wartime Prime Minister of Great Britain arrived May 4.

    It was a moment of some emotion, as Sir Winston came down the steps of the plane carrying his stick and familiar black hat, but no cigar. Ike grasped his hand, and led him to the microphone dais.

    Sir Winston after three days at the White House as guest of the President leaves for the British Embassy Washington for one day, then three days in New York as the guest of his long-time friend Bernard Baruch, financier and 'political adviser'.
