    AN AGRICULTURAL SHOW HAS BEEN HELD IN BOHICON, DAHOMEY, LAST WEEK TO PROMOTE THE USE OF MODERN AGRICULTURAL METHODS. IT WAS THE FIRST SHOW OF THIS KIND HELD IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ZOU.

    TEN VILLAGE GROUPS OUT OF 233 IN THE AREA TOOK PART IN THE SHOW.

    THE PREFECT OF THE ZOU DEPARTMENT, M. ANTOINE AGOSSA, SAID HE WAS PLEASED TO SEE SO MANY RURAL WORKERS AT THE SHOW. THE AIM OF THE SHOW WAS, HE SAID, TO PROMOTE THE USE OF MODERN METHODS BY THE VILLAGE GROUPS.

    HE SAID THAT 1969 HAD BEEN A GOOD YEAR FOR PRODUCTION DESPITE VARIOUS DIFFICULTIES.

    THE PRESIDENT OF THE SHOW WAS LT. COL. MAURICE KOUNADETE, A MEMBER OF THE DIRECTORY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND CO-OPERATION.

    HE SAID HE WAS HAPPY TO PRESIDE OVER A SHAW WHICH DISPLAYED THE HARD WORK AND INITIATIVE OF THE DEPARTMENT.

    THE SHOW INCLUDED A DISPLAY BY LOCAL FOLKDANCERS.

    THE SHOW HAD A BUDGET OF 500,000 FRANCS AND EACH VILLAGE GROUP WAS GIVEN FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IN BUYING ONE TON OF CEMENT AND 30 SHEETS OF CORRUGATED IRON, WHICH WERE BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR WAREHOUSES FOR THEIR CROPS. THE MATERIALS WERE OBTAINED WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A BASIC PRICE BY THE GOVERNMENT TO KEEP THE COST WITHIN THE REACH OF THE VILLAGE GROUPS.
