    Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin today (Sunday) flew their fragile moonship Eagle to a gentle touchdown on the moon. "The Eagle has landed" mission control told the world.

    Mission central gave the historic touchdown time unofficially as 102 hours 45 minutes and 42 seconds into the moon mission.

    The two Americans immediately started radioing back a description of the rugged terrain around them with the cool efficiency and lack of emotion which has marked the whole historic journey of Apollo II.
