    THE FAMOUS ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY, SANDHURST, WAS THE SETTING TODAY (THURSDAY) FOR THE SOVEREIGN'S PARADE. A TOTAL OF 965 CADETS TOOK PART - 200 OF THEM "PASSING OUT" TO COMMISSIONS PRINCESS MARINA, DUCHESS OF KENT AND HER DAUGHTER - PRINCESS ALEXANDRA - WERE PRESENT.

    THEY WERE ESPECIALLY INTERESTED IN THIS PARADE; FOR ONE OF THE CADETS "PASSING OUT" WAS PRINCE MICHAEL OF KENT, PRINCESS MARINA'S YOUNGER SON. THIS YEAR, THE PARADE WAS TAKEN BY ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET SIR CASPAR JOHN, FIRST SEA LORD AND CHIEF OF NAVAL STAFF, ON BEHALF OF QUEEN ELIZABETH.

    TWO AWARDS WERE MADE - THE SWORD OF HONOUR AND THE QUEEN'S MEDAL - TO THE MOST PROMISING CADETS. THEN THE ADJUTANT OF THE PARADE, MAJOR J. SWINTON OF THE SCOTS GUARDS, RODE HIS HORSE UP THE ACADEMY STEPS TO BRING THE PARADE TO ITS TRADITIONAL CLOSE.

    THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES, IN ADDITION TO BRITAIN, TOOK PART (WITH THE NUMBER OF CADETS BEING COMMISSIONED IN BRACKETS): CEYLON (1), GHANA (4), JORDAN (1), MALAYA (4), MALTA (2), NEW ZEALAND (1), NIGERIA (5), RHODESIA AND NYASALAND (5), SOMALILAND (2), THAILAND (2).
