The President of the Malagasy Republic, Mr. Philibert Tsiranana, left hospital in Paris today (Friday) for home. The President has been recuperating at the Salpetriere Hospital for four months after taking ill while attending a conference in Cameroun.
President Tsiranana will spend the next few days at his country's embassy in Paris catching up on latest events in the Republic. He is expected to leave for home on Sunday.
The President took ill last January shortly after arriving in Cameroun for the summit conference of the African, Malagasy and Mauritanian Common Organisation.
He was immediately flown to Paris for treatment. It was said he was suffering from a circulatory ailment.
President Tsiranana took some time today saying goodbye to the staff at the hospital. When asked about his feelings on leaving the hospital, the President said he had enjoyed his stay, but was very happy to returning home to his people.
