Israeli Prime Minister Mrs. Golda Meir addressed a luncheon of the Foreign Press Association in Jerusalem on Tuesday (22 May), and said that israel was willing to accept the good offices of the United Nations in the Middle East crisis, provided it limited itself to bringing the parties together for negotiations.
Mrs. Meir said however, that so far, United Nations efforts in this sphere had been disappointing.
The Israeli leader also said that she wasn't worried about the forthcoming meeting between United States President Richard Nixon and Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. She said she felt it would in no way change Mr. Nixon's basic policies towards Israel.
A section of Mrs. Meir's address at the luncheon is included in this film report. A transcript of that speech appears below.
