    IN TOKYO LAST NIGHT (WEDNESDAY) 32-THOUSAND PEOPLE DEMONSTRATED AGAINST UNITED STATES BOMBING MISSIONS NEAR THE NORTH VIETNAMESE CITIES OF HANOI AND HAIPHONG.

    MOST OF THE DEMONSTRATORS WERE FOLLOWERS OF THE JAPANESE SOCIALIST AND COMMUNIST PARTIES.

    THE DEMONSTRATION WAS HELD ON THE TWELFTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GENEVA AGREEMENT ON VIETNAM.

    THE DEMONSTRATORS PROTESTED AGAINST THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT'S SUPPORT FOR AMERICAN POLICY ON VIETNAM.

    A RESOLUTION WAS ADOPTED ASKING PRESIDENT JOHNSON TO HALT THE INTENSIFICATION OF THE VIETNAM CONFLICT AND WITHDRAW AMERICAN TROOPS FROM SOUTH VIETNAM. THE DEMONSTRATORS ALSO URGED THAT UNITED STATES BASES IN JAPAN SHOULD NOT BE USED AS STAGING CENTRES FOR TROOPS BOUND FOR SOUTH VIETNAM.

    DURING THE DEMONSTRATION THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE MARCHED THROUGH TOKYO TO THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY. STREET AROUND THE EMBASSY WERE BLOCKED BY POLICE VEHICLES.

    SEVERAL THROUGH OF THE CITY'S POLICE WERE MOBILISED TO DEAL WITH THE DEMONSTRATION. THERE WERE NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS.
