    SOUTH VIETNAMESE RESENTMENT IS HIGH OVER THE POLICY OF THE FRENCH PRESIDENT, GENERAL DE GAULLE, CALLING FOR NEUTRALITY IN NORTH AND SOUTH VIETNAM AS A MEANS OF ENDING THE WAR IN THE SOUTH WITH THE VIETCONG.

    IN A STATEMENT YESTERDAY, THE STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION CLAIMED THAT THE PARTITION OF VIETNAM AT THE GENEVA CONVENTION TEN YEARS AGO HAD BEEN BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE COLLUSION OF THE FRENCH AND THE COMMUNISTS.

    TUESDAY (21ST JULY) WAS NATIONAL SHAME DAY IN SOUTH VIETNAM - THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE GENEVA AGREEMENT.

    DURING THE DAY, ABOUT TWO-HUNDRED STUDENTS SCREAMING "DOWN WITH DE GAULLE" STORMED THE FRENCH EMBASSY IN SAIGON, SMASHING WINDOWS AND WRECKING FURNITURE.

    THE STUDENTS ALSO SCATTERED FILED AND SET FIRE TO A STATION WAGON IN THE EMBASSY GROUNDS.

    EARLIER IN THE WEEK, THE FRENCH WAR MEMORIAL IN SAIGON HAD BEEN DEFACED, AND PRESIDENT DE GAULLE HANGED IN EFFIGY.

    THE FRENCH GOVERNMENT HAS PROTESTED TO SOUTH VIETNAM'S FOREIGN MINISTRY.
