Sir Noel coward died on Monday afternoon (26 March) at his home, Firefly Hill, in Jamaica. He was 73. He usually spent this time of the year in Jamaica. He had become increasingly frail in recent years after several illnesses.
Sir Noel was knighted in 1970. The daring young playwright of the 1920's, he became the darling of the mass public in the 1930's and lived long enough to see his plays go out of fashion and come back again in a wave of revivals in the 1960's.
This film shows Sir Noel, 73, as the guest of honour at the 119th performance of "Oh coward !" in New York on 14th January. This retrospective review was drawn from the great wealth of his material and includes 50 of his own songs.
This film shows part of the performance and also the reception held afterwards.
