Dr. Francisco Sa Carnerio, Secretary General of the Portuguese Democratic People's Party, has called for a European Summit conference to work out an economic support plan for his security.
Doctor Careiro was in Bonn, West Germany, for three days of talks with government leaders, including the Chancellor, Helmut Schnidt.
Dr. Carnerio said the latest left-wing rebellion in Lisbon showed how important it was for the Portuguese Government, to the given support and he told newsmen he would appeal for such a summit to be called quickly.
In the latest rebellion, Portugal's radical leftists appear to have suffered their sharpest defeat in 19 months of revolution, as a result of the government's tough response to this week's left-wing military rebellion.
Lisbon has now found itself under virtual martial law. There's a night-time curfew, bans on meetings and demonstrations, news censorship and authorization of arrests and house-searches without warrants.
Portugal has close ties with West Germany in trading.
Dr. Carneiro's party is one of Portugal's major political parties. In the last election it took just 26 percent of the votes and has 80 deputies in the Constituent Assembly.
