  • Description

Egypt's President, Anwar Sadat, has called on mankind to help the African liberation movement to rid the continent of all forms of imperialism and racial discrimination. His appeal came during Africa Day celebrations held in the Egyptian city of Alexandria on Tuesday (25 May)
President Sadat hosted the celebrations at the Ras Eltine Palace. His guests included African ambassadors to Egypt and representatives of the liberation movements from Zimbabwe, South Africa and Namibia. Also present were Egyptian Vice-President Hosny Mubarek and Foreign Minister Ismail Fahmy.

During the day's celebrations President Sadat met a group of African journalists who were in Egypt to take part in the third session of their union's council meeting in Cairo the next day (26 May).
