Lung Ching tea enjoys a great reputation among the tea drinkers in China and aboard for its green colour, fragrance, excellent flavour and full body.
Spring is the busiest season for tea picking. Women tea pickers set out for the mountains early in the morning.
Many new tea plantations have been opened up in Mei Chia Wu after liberation; the acreage of the tea shrubs has been greatly extended. Old plantations have also been transformed. After the formation of the People's Commune in Mei Chia Wu, tea growers come to understand that their work also serves the revolution. Great care has gone into the management of tea shrubs as a result of their rising labour enthusiasm. As compared with pre-liberation days, Mei Chia Wu's yearly tea output has gone up five times and more.
Before liberation Mei Chia Wu was nothing more than a desolate valley' the tea peasants lived in abject poverty.
This old woman's husband was forced to commit suicide by a landlord; her daughter was starved to death. She and 10-year-old son had to beg for a living.
An earth shaking change in this mountain village has taken place since liberation. This old woman's family has also changed completely. Her son is a cadre in the people's commune and her daughter-in-law is a tea picker. They have a spacious house to live in and life is getting better and better.
Now, Mei Chia Wu has become a truly happy valley with a general rise in the living standard of the commune members and growing welfare establishments.
Kindergartens, primary and middle schools have been established in the villages. Prosperity has come to stay in Mei Chia Wu valley.
