    Egyptian President Anwar Sadat told a group of visiting United States senators on Saturday (13 November) that he was prepared to sign a peace treaty with Israel.

    SYNOPSIS: The senators, met the President at his private residence at Barrage, near Cairo. They were led by Senator Abraham Ribicoff who presented President Sadat with a gift. Mr. Sadat told them that he would sign a peace treaty with Israel on certain conditions. Israel must withdraw from Arab territory occupied since the 1967 was and form a Palestinian state on the West Bank of the river Jordan. Another of the President's conditions war for the United States to supply Egypt with arms.

    President Sadat is reported to have asked the delegation to tell U.S. President-elect, Jimmy Carter, that a comprehensive solution to the Middle East problem should be reached in 1977. The Egyptian leader said he wanted Mr. Carter to seek Arab views before making decisions. Mr. Sadat told the delegation that the peace agreement should be signed at a reconvened peace conference in Geneva.
