  • Description

In a major Cabinet reshuffle in Santiago on Saturday (17 June) Chile's President Salvador Allende swore-in six new ministers and dropped his number two colleague, Economy Minister Pedre Vuskovic. Altogether, six ministers were replaced.

Political observers have been speculating that President Allende is now launching a major effort to coal passions and revive a spirit of compromise into Chilean politics following much recent criticism, particularly of Senor Vuskovic who sought to gain control of the economy by state takeovers and nationalisation. He will be retained as an adviser. After the ceremony the President announced the introduction of new laws defining exactly the three sectors of the economy.....state, mixed, and private.
