Bounty hunters trawl off the British Colombia coast, Canada, for dogfish, Jan 16. A small type of shark, dogfish have increased to such numbers that fish feeding grounds are depleted and fishermen's nets extensively damaged. The Canadian Government is offering bonuses for dogfish catches and has set a target of 1,300,000 pounds of dogfish liver to be delivered by March 31.
These off-season payments are a boon to British Colombian trawlermen and are expected to continue - scientists have estimated that an annual kill of 30,000 tons of dogfish is necessary to keep below the danger-level.
