  • Description

The United Nations Ambassadors of the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the Soviet Union met in New York on Tuesday (October 13) and agreed to continue and accelerate their consultation to promote a peaceful settlement in the Middle East.

The two hour meeting took place at the residence of the French Ambassador to the United Nations, Jacques Kosciuko-Morizet. It was the 45th since they began efforts to formulate a settlement in April, 1969.

The statement issued after the talks called for the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Middle East resolution of November 22, 1967, in all its parts. The resolution called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from territory occupied in the six-day war of June, 1967; an end to Arab belligerency; and the establishment of secure and recognised boundaries.

The Four power, said the statement, recognised the urgency of the situation in Middle East and pledged continuing efforts to find a peace formula.
